The Mattessons we know and love was founded in 1947 by Richard Mattes (yes, that's where the name comes from!)
Richard was a German, born into a Rhineland sausage making family. Already a wise fifty years old when he founded the company, he set his sights on something much more meaty with his Continental sausage making 'know-how'.
The company developed rapidly and over the following years Mattessons introduced many new and unique products into Britain, including family favourite Chubs spreads in 1966, the first pre-packed sliced meat for the nation in 1970 and the UK's first taste of paté in 1971.
Mattessons is famous for the marvellous 'Mmm' tv ads with "Just try saying Mattessons without saying Mmm'; causing people to this day to still say "Mmm...Mattessons'!
Today Mattessons is even more innovative than ever and although Richard Mattes is no longer with us we are certain he'd be proud to see the delicious products we're creating for our consumers.
